L'année passée, la crise grecque avait montré la fragilité du système européen. Ce n'est pas seulement la crise grecque qui a marqué les esprits mais surtout la crise de la dette publique dans la zone Euro. Cela concerne principalement les pays méditerranéens mais aujourd'hui même, l'agence de notation Moody's a évoqué une possible baisse sur le triple A de la Grande Bretagne.
Une croissance britannique moins forte que prévu
Moody's a réévalué la croissance, ainsi elle passe de 2,0% à 1,6%, ce qui est sensiblement une baisse conséquente. Néanmoins, une agence gouvernementale a estimé la croissance plutôt autour de 1,7%. En effet, la croissance anglaise a été lourdement pénalisée en 2009 et depuis, elle peine clairement à repartir à la hausse. Par ailleurs, les prévisions de l'OCDE ne sont pas spécialement optimistes quant à l'évolution de la dette publique brute. Assurément, elle devrait passer au delà des 88% de PIB en 2011. De plus les ventes au détail publiées aujourd'hui ont fortement chuté entrainant la livre Stirling dans un profond gouffre.
Une inflation toujours plus forte
Alors que l'ensemble de la zone euro accuse d'une inflation supérieure à 2%, La Grande Bretagne subit une hausse des prix à la consommation de 4,4% en Février. L'inflation n'avait pas été aussi forte depuis 2008. Bien sûr, cette forte augmentation est directement liée aux prix des matières premières et notamment le prix du baril. Nonobstant, l'ensemble de la zone euro est aussi impacté par cela, ce qui fait la différence au Royaume-unis c'est le coût du logement, l'habillement et la consommation liée au chauffage(en partie aussi liée au cours du pétrole).
Un cruel dilemme pour la BoE
L'objectif d'inflation est de 2% pour les banques centrales, or la Grande Bretagne souffre d'une inflation de 4,4%, soit plus du double du taux optimal... Néanmoins, la Bank of England conserve son taux directeur à 0,5%.
Pourquoi ne pas augmenter son taux directeur pour combattre l'inflation ?
L'économie britannique est encore fragile(comme le souligne les faibles perspectives de croissance) et l'inflation est clairement en partie due à l'augmentation du cours des matières première importées et non à la consommation en biens courants. Ainsi augmenter le taux directeur affaiblirait potentiellement l'économie du pays.
Une instabilité politique croissante au Portugal
C'est la quatrième fois qu'un plan d'austérité est rejeté à l'assemblé nationale du Portugal. Ainsi cela a contraint le premier ministre de démissionner de ses fonctions. Cet énième plan avait pour objectif d'éviter de demander de l'aide aux autres pays. Mais sensiblement, sur cette voie il n'y aura pas quatre chemins, il est désormais assez probable que le Portugal demande de l'aide au FMI voir à l'union européenne.
Dans le contexte actuel, il paraît évident que l'Europe a encore des problèmes à régler. Les pays méditerranéens sont globalement à peu près tous plonger dans une crise de la dette publique. Et maintenant d'autres pays comme la Grande Bretagne ou la France montrent des signes de fragilité concernant la croissance.
